Berlin Wall

Twenty-five years ago the Berlin wall that separated East and West Germany fell! November 9, 1989, was a day that changed German history. Germans are celebrating a peaceful reunification begun twenty-five years earlier.

Dr. Heinrich Derksen, President of the Bible Seminary in Bonn, said that 40 years of communist rule in East Germany destroyed more than the 70 years in the former Soviet Union. East Germany is still one of the most unreached people groups in the world with the gospel. Millions of people in the former communist state have not heard the gospel or have a vibrant evangelical church nearby.

The Bible Seminary in Bonn trains pastors and missionaries to serve in East Germany and worldwide. Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary has a partnership with the Seminary in Bonn. I have had the privilege of teaching there as well as participating in a Preaching Conference to foster expository preaching among the churches.

The German evangelical Baptists are making a difference in reaching their country for Christ!

As you remember the miracle of November 9, 1989, please also pray for more missionaries, church planters and lay workers to enter God’s harvest in Germany!

And also remember . . . God himself has broken down the barrier of sin that separates us from Him through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ. God seeks reunification with every human being through regeneration (the new birth) based on the finished work of Christ on the cross. Salvation comes through repentance of sin and faith in Christ.

The fields are white unto harvest. Pray the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into the field of the world!
